How to Make The Perfect Cold Brew

Cold brew coffee is the perfect way to get your caffeine fix on a hot summer day. The problem is that if you don't make it right, you can end up with an overly bitter or watery cup of joe. Ioannis Cold Brew Coffee is the answer to all your problems!

We've got a fool-proof method for cold brew coffee that guarantees a smooth and icy cup every time. Making cold brew coffee isn't hard—you just need a large container for making it and a strainer. You don't even need special equipment! Try our signature Ioannis Awaken Cold Brew recipe today to create this masterpiece. It is the perfect blend of beans to deliver a refreshing drink.

Make sure your beans are ground just right

First things first: make sure your beans are coarsely ground. Coffee beans are typically ground very finely for drip coffee or espresso machines because those machines use very hot water. With cold brew there's no need for this high level of grind—you'll get better results with a coarser grind.

You can use any kind of coffee bean you like, but we recommend using a dark roast. Darker roasts tend to have more body and less acidity. Our Awaken Cold Bew recipe is balanced exactly for this kind of purpose with flavors of prune and dark chocolate.

Use filtered water if you can

Now that you've got your coffee grounds ready to go, it's time to add water.

You want to use cold water for this coffee recipe—the colder the better! If you can get your hands on filtered water, even better. Just like with coffee grounds, the cleaner taste of filtered water will really shine through in your final product. If you don't have access to filtered water, then just make sure your tap water has been sitting out overnight so that any chlorine or other chemicals have had time to evaporate out of it before you start brewing your coffee grounds in it.

Don’t rush the steeping

Next, we suggest that you steep your grounds for at least 18 hours before straining them into another container (and be careful not to over-steep). The coffee needs this full time to fully infuse the water with its flavor and caffeine content. Straining too early can give you a weaker cup of coffee; steeping too long can start to extract some of those bitter flavors you are hoping to avoid!
With our Awaken Cold Brew Recipe, you will get the best out of the flavor without the need to over-steeping.

Finally

If you follow all these steps you will very soon have an amazing cold brew. The secret to making this delicious drink is taking your time throughout the process. A truly good cup is the result of filtered water, quality coffee beans, and plenty of time steeping. There really is an art to getting everything right so you may need to practice a bit. It is well worth it in the end though!
